Up until DVCAM the longest Small BetacamSP tapes were 30 minutes. These were the tapes used in the cameras. When DVCAM arrived on the scene the tapes were 3 hours. At the same time, Panasonic released DVCPRO. Both 1/4" Digital videocasette, separated by a different cassette. It seems like Sony & Panasonic never saw eye to eye.
